Chemical Peels in Salem
A chemical peel uses a carefully chosen solution to gently remove the outermost layer of dead skin cells, helping fresher, clearer and more even skin come through.
What chemical peels can help with
- Active acne, blackheads and whiteheads
- Acne marks and mild scars
- Melasma, tanning and uneven skin tone
- Dull, tired-looking skin
- Oily skin and open pores
- Fine lines and early signs of sun damage
- Dark underarms, neck and elbows
Types of peels we use
| Peel | Best suited for |
|---|---|
| Salicylic acid | Oily, acne-prone skin, blackheads and whiteheads |
| Glycolic acid | Dullness, fine lines, uneven tone and pigmentation |
| Lactic and mandelic acid | Sensitive skin and pigmentation |
| Combination peels (such as Jessner’s) | Stubborn pigmentation and melasma |
| TCA (low strength, and focal CROSS technique) | Marks, fine lines and ice-pick acne scars |
The peel, its strength and how long it is left on are chosen for your skin type and concern, and adjusted as your skin responds.
What to expect
- Preparation. For some peels you will use a prescribed cream for 2 to 4 weeks beforehand to prepare your skin.
- The peel. Your face is cleansed, the peel is applied for a few minutes and then neutralised or removed. You may feel tingling or mild warmth.
- Afterwards. Mild redness for a few hours and light flaking for a few days are normal.
Aftercare
- Use sunscreen every day and avoid direct sun.
- Use a gentle cleanser and moisturiser.
- Avoid scrubs, waxing and retinoid creams for a few days.
- Do not pick or peel flaking skin.
Who should avoid peels
Peels are postponed if you have an active cold sore, infection, open wounds or sunburn on the face. Tell us if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have recently taken isotretinoin, or have very sensitive skin or eczema; Dr. Kiruthika will advise whether a peel suits you.
HydraFacial and medi-facials
For a gentle glow without peeling, we also offer HydraFacial and other medi-facials, which deep-cleanse, exfoliate and hydrate the skin. These work well on their own or between peel sessions.
Why choose Skintillate
Peels look simple, but the wrong peel can leave Indian skin darker. Every peel at Skintillate is chosen and supervised by Dr. Kiruthika, a dermatologist trained at PGIMER, Chandigarh.
Frequently asked questions
Are chemical peels safe for Indian skin?
Yes, when the right peel and strength are chosen by a dermatologist. Indian skin can darken after strong or poorly chosen peels, so we start with gentler peels, prepare the skin beforehand and increase strength gradually.
Will my skin peel a lot?
Most of the peels we use cause only mild flaking for a few days, and some cause no visible peeling at all. Visible peeling is not needed for a peel to work.
Can I go to work after a peel?
Usually, yes. You may have mild redness for a few hours. Plan stronger peels before a weekend or a few quiet days.
How many sessions do I need?
Most people need a course of 4 to 6 peels, spaced 2 to 4 weeks apart, depending on the concern and the type of peel.
Can I have a peel before a wedding or event?
Yes, but plan ahead. Start a course a few months before, and schedule the last peel at least 1 to 2 weeks before the event. Avoid trying a new peel just before an important day.
